Portfolio & Operations · Playbook 05

Five minutes. Whole book of business.

Anthropic's Small Business plugin bundles workflows and skills built for teams of one to ten. For an agent managing a handful of investor clients and their properties, it's the closest thing yet to an off-the-shelf operating layer.

Why this matters.

Running a small book of investor clients and their properties is the original small business. One person, a handful of contractors and vendors, a stack of spreadsheets, and a calendar full of dates that cost money if missed.

A bundled small-business plugin treats a one-to-ten person operation as a real customer. It bundles workflows spanning finance, ops, contracts, and comms, and ships as a single install. For an agent, it lands as something specific: a coordinator you don't have to hire and an assistant that already knows where every signed document lives.
One install. Fifteen workflows. The closest thing to an ops hire you don't have to make.

Install. Onboard. Connect.

01

Install the plugin

Open Co-Work, browse plugins, search for the small business plugin from the official publisher, and install it.

02

Let it onboard you

Paste one prompt telling it you run a real estate practice, not a generic small business, so its recommendations are framed correctly from message one.

03

Connect two tools first

Accounting and your document workspace cover most of what a useful weekly pulse needs. Add a CRM and portal data connector once those are running.

04

Run the first pulse

Ask for cash position, income received vs expected, anything due in the next 14 days, and any client email you haven't replied to.

The onboarding prompt
Get me started with the Small Business plugin. Context: I run a real estate practice advising clients who invest in property, not an e-commerce or SaaS business. Ask me which tools I already use, and recommend the smallest set of connectors that lets me run a useful weekly pulse.

What it still gets wrong.

i.

It's not a property-specific platform

The connectors are generic: accounting, payments, email, docs, CRM. Property-specific tools need a separate connector.

ii.

It doesn't replace your accountant

It cleans transactions and drafts summaries. It doesn't file a return. Treat its output as prep, not submission.

iii.

Data quality is your job

Sloppy categorisation in your accounting produces a sloppy weekly pulse. Plan to spend the first two weeks tightening source data.

iv.

Heavy use needs the bigger plan

Multiple client entities or a full team will hit message limits by mid-month on the standard tier.
